Patrick Rhoades, MD

Dr. Rhoades is a born and raised Californian and committed to helping his patients find relief from their chronic pain since graduating from Tulane University in New Orleans, Lousiana. After completing residency in Buffalo, NY, he moved back to California and opened CVPM shortly after getting settled in Modesto. His favorite place to vacation is Hawaii, but he always loves whenever he can spend time with his six children and four grandchildren. His hobbies include tennis, reading, and weightlifting where he has even won a world championship! Dr. Rhoades goes above and beyond in treating his patients and is tirelessly dedicated to making sure they have the tools they need to have a fulfilled life with exceptional pain management.

Sue Schoonover, PA

Julie Mallory, NP

Julie is a born and raised Modesto citizen. She attended MJC and became an RN for a number of years before moving on to University of the Pacific for a Bachelor’s in Nursing and eventually attaining her Master’s degree and becoming a Nurse Practitioner. While she may be a local, her passion for food makes her favorite vacation spots places she can enjoy world class food like Italy and France. In her free time when she isn’t making something delicious for friends and family, she enjoys being active through bicycling, running, and hiking. She also enjoys quiet strolls as she tends to her garden. In practicing medicine, she likes the aspect of helping people regain control of their lives and likes helping people help themselves in all aspects of their life to obtain optimal health.

Cadena Smart FN-P

Cadena Smart originates from New Jersey and spent the last 10 years in Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Cadena received her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing in 2014 from Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. She then pursued her dream in Emergency Care Nursing for 5 years, toward the end of her career as a nurse she went back to school to obtain her Master Degree at DeSales University in 2019.

Cadena has worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner in pain management and addiction medicine since she has graduated and has a strong passion for this speciality. Her philosophy in medicine is as follows, "Treat every patient as an individual with respect, kindness, unique to their needs, and as if they were your family."

Aside from medicine, Cadena enjoys staying busy outside of work. She enjoys traveling, reading, horseback riding, baking, watching professional sports, shopping, and spending time with her Husband and family!

Dr. Michael Brook

We would like to introduce you to Dr. Michael Brook. He will be doing all of our procedures for our patients at Valley Surgery Center. Dr. Michael Brook is a highly accomplished physician with extensive experience in anesthesiology and pain medicine. He received his undergraduate degree Magna cum laude from the University of Michigan, where he excelled academically and established a strong foundation for his future career in medicine. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Maryland, where he was recognized for his academic achievements and leadership skills.

Dr. Brook completed his residency in anesthesiology and pain medicine at the University of Miami and Stanford University Medical Center, where he gained invaluable experience in managing pain and improving patients' quality of life. Over the years, he has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including Adventist Health in Hanford, his private practice in Mountain View, CA, and Stanford University Hospital.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Brook enjoys traveling, hiking, biking, and spending time with his three children. He is passionate about practicing medicine to improve the quality of life of his patients, enabling them to enjoy life to the fullest. With his expertise, compassion, and dedication to his patients, Dr. Brook is a trusted physician and a wonderful asset to the Central Valley Pain Management team.
